Let's Go to Luckenbach Texas

Just outside of Fredricksburg is a little town called Luckenbach. Famously known for its country music and quaint atmosphere, Luckenbach is a place to kick back, relax, meet some great new people, and hear some country songs. You may even hear Luckenbach mentioned in a country song or two.

Named after Jakob Luckenbach, a German who helped settle the area in 1845. It was first established as a trading post for the area. The population grew to nearly 500 by the early 1900s, but by the 1960s, it was basically a ghost town. It was then put up for sale and purchased by Hondo Crouch and his wife Shatzi in 1970. There is a statue of him next to the Post Office, a bar named after him, and a picture of him on the side.

We actually know Becky Crouch Patterson, Hondo Crouch's daughter. She has written multiple books about Hondo and Luckenbach including "Hondo, My Father," "The Ranch That Was Us," and "Luckenbach Texas - The Center of the Universe."

The post office in Luckenbach was founded in 1848 but closed in 1971 and now serves as a general store where visors can purchase t-shirts, stickers, bandanas, and more with the famous Luckenbach logo.

As you enter the parking lot, you are greeted with a large pink Luckenbach sign and a truck displaying the upcoming concerts. There is a cemetery just to the right of the main entrance and if you take the loop into the town there is also motorcycle parking.

There are a lot of really cool little places in Luckenbach, including multiple stages, a hat shop, and the general store.

In addition to the special concerts that are held here. Each Sunday there is a picker's circle where locals can come and share their music and you can go listen to singer-songwriters sharing songs. When we stopped by Luckenbach most recently, it was actually on a Sunday so we got to hear some of the local talents.

So, go for the experience, stay for the songs, and never forget to dillydally!
