Target Run and Done

Out in the middle of nowhere, about 15 miles outside of Marathon, TX on US 90, we came across a familiar logo. However, this Target isn't fully stocked with home goods like your average store.

Coming out of Big Bend, we were met with a decision to go either right or left. One was the way home, and the other would take us out of our way, down highway 90, and past this little building. Obviously, we chose the latter.

This Target appeared in 2016 when an unknown person put the painted wooden letters on this building. Like Prada Marfa, this building is purely an art installation.

As we were there, a few other people stopped to take a look at this unique structure. It also sits next to a railroad track and we even got a chance to wave as one went by.

When taking a closer look, however, we soon learned that this structure was also home to a hive of bees. You may be able to see some if you look close enough in the photos.

At some point, someone also dropped off a red shopping cart in front of the building, providing the perfect prop for a Target photo-op.

Just months after we visited in March 2020, the building was demolished due to structural issues and safety hazards.

We were lucky to have been able to see it when we did. There were many people saddened by its demise. Although, it's nothing much to gawk at, it's kinda nice to know that random places like this exist.

We hope to be able to find more little treasures like this in the future.

So, go for the experience, (you can't really stay for the shopping anymore), but never forget to dillydally!
